AlkaTide Ingredients: What Each Gummy Contains
AlkaTide has one active ingredient: 250 mg of apple cider vinegar per gummy.
The other five listed items, cane sugar, glucose syrup, water, pectin and citric acid, are what make it a chewable.
The sales page says “a balanced blend of actives”. The panel says one. We are flagging that here rather than at the bottom, because it changes how you should read every other claim about this product. Whatever AlkaTide does, it does with 250 mg of apple cider vinegar.
Every ingredient in AlkaTide, one by one
Six named items. The first is the active and carries a published amount; the other five are what turns a powder into a chewable.
Apple Cider Vinegar
250 mg The one activeThis is the entire active panel. Everything else on the label is what holds a gummy together. Apple cider vinegar is fermented apple juice; the component the research cares about is acetic acid. Evidence: Kondo 2009 is the trial most often cited for it — a twelve-week study in obese Japanese adults using vinegar daily. Johnston 2004 reported improved insulin sensitivity to a high-carbohydrate meal, Ostman 2005 reported lower glucose and insulin responses and higher reported satiety after a bread meal, and Hlebowicz 2007 looked at gastric emptying. The caveat that matters more than any of them: those studies used liquid vinegar at tablespoon doses — on the order of 750–1,500 mg of acetic acid a day. This gummy carries 250 mg of apple cider vinegar, which is a fraction of that before you account for how much of it is acetic acid at all. 2020 systematic review pooled the safety and metabolic literature and is worth reading in full if you want the state of the evidence rather than a summary of it.
Cane sugar
Other ingredient SweetenerA gummy has to taste like a gummy. Cane sugar is the bulk sweetener, and it is the reason a chewable carries a small amount of sugar where a capsule carries none. If you are counting sugar for any reason, this belongs in the count — check the Supplement Facts panel on the bottle you receive for the figure per serving.
Glucose syrup
Other ingredient Sweetener and textureWorks with the cane sugar to give the gummy its chew and to stop it crystallising on the shelf. Another carbohydrate rather than an active ingredient.
Water
Other ingredient CarrierThe solvent everything else is dissolved into before the mixture sets. Listing it is ordinary and honest; it is not doing anything for you.
Pectin
Other ingredient Gelling agentA plant fibre from fruit, and the reason this gummy sets without gelatin, which is why the label can carry a vegetarian mark. If you are avoiding gelatin for dietary or religious reasons, pectin is the answer to that question.
Citric acid
Other ingredient Acidity and tartnessBalances the sweetness and helps preserve the gummy. It is the sharpness you taste. Citric acid is not apple cider vinegar and does nothing that acetic acid is studied for.
250 mg of ACV in AlkaTide against what the trials used
| Study | What it used | What it measured |
|---|---|---|
| Kondo 2009 | 15–30 ml vinegar daily, 12 weeks | Body weight, body fat, triglycerides |
| Johnston 2004 | 20 g vinegar with a meal | Insulin sensitivity after a carbohydrate meal |
| Ostman 2005 | Vinegar with a bread meal | Glucose, insulin and reported satiety |
| Hlebowicz 2007 | Apple cider vinegar, pilot study | Gastric emptying rate |
| One AlkaTide gummy | 250 mg apple cider vinegar | Not studied as a finished product |
A tablespoon of vinegar is roughly 15 ml. Converting between millilitres of liquid vinegar and milligrams of apple cider vinegar in a gummy is not a clean arithmetic — the concentration of acetic acid differs, but the direction is not in doubt: the trials used several times more. We would rather print that than a line about “the power of ACV”.
What to know before you start taking AlkaTide
Vinegar and tooth enamel
Acid and enamel do not get on. A published case report describes erosion traced to apple cider vinegar taken for weight loss — from liquid, at far higher exposure than a gummy. It is still the reason the label asks you to take it with a glass of water, and a reason not to chew several.
Blood sugar and medication
The mechanism people find interesting — effects on glucose response — is exactly why anyone on glucose-lowering medication should ask a clinician first. The 2020 safety review is the place to start, and your prescriber is the person to finish the conversation with.
What is deliberately not in AlkaTide
An ingredient list is defined as much by what it leaves out. Five absences here are worth naming, because each one is a decision rather than an oversight.
No caffeine, no stimulants
Nothing on this panel is a stimulant, which is why the label puts no restriction on the time of day and why there is no warning about sleep. If you are avoiding stimulants, this product does not contain any, and equally, do not expect the lift one would give.
No proprietary blend
The one active carries a printed number. Most of this category gives a blend total and leaves you unable to compare anything to anything. That absence is the single most useful feature of this label.
No gelatin
Pectin sets the gummy instead, which is what makes the vegetarian mark possible. If you avoid gelatin for dietary or religious reasons, this is the answer to that question.
No second active
No B12, no chromium, no cayenne, no garcinia. Competing gummies routinely add these to lengthen the panel. Whether that is better or just longer is a fair argument, but this one does not, and the sales copy’s “blend of actives” does not change it.
How to read the AlkaTide Supplement Facts panel
Worth three minutes, because the same skill works on every bottle you will ever pick up.
Find the serving size first
Everything else on the panel is per serving, not per gummy, and the two are only the same thing when a serving is one gummy. Here it is. On a two-gummy label, a 500 mg figure is 250 mg each — the front of the bottle rarely makes that obvious.
Separate actives from other ingredients
Items above the line with amounts are what the product is claiming to deliver. Items under “other ingredients” make it a gummy. On this label one item is above the line and five are below it.
Check what has no number
Cane sugar and glucose syrup appear without published amounts here. The sugar per serving figure is on the bottle you receive. We do not print one because we cannot verify it, and an estimate would be worse than the gap.
Compare the number to the research, not the claim
This is the step almost nobody takes and the only one that matters. 250 mg against the tablespoon doses the trials used is the whole argument, and it is set out in the table above rather than buried.
